What Moving Has Taught Me About Life

I’ve moved out of the country, out of the state, out of the county, and across the street. Every time I’ve moved, God has taught me a different lesson! There’s just something about discarding of the old and taking only the essentials, that puts you in the perfect place to gain a new perspective. I hope with this little study, I can pass on some of the lessons I’ve learned, and hopefully, these tips will help you with your next big move!
1. The Most Important Things in Life…. Are not things. [Yard Sale! ]
First thing’s first. If you’re going to move, it’s OUT WITH THE OLD! Moving is like Spring Cleaning on steroids! You truly don’t know how much nonsense you accumulate until you have to move! So, ladies, it’s time to go through your closet, your bookshelves, your shoes, and your bags! If you haven’t worn it or used it in a year, it’s bye-bye birdie! Subdivide into “Keep,” “Donation,” and “Trash!” You’ll feel so much lighter, and have a lot less to carry into your new place!
When I was younger and constantly moving, I was always having to get rid of toys, clothes and even my favorite rain boots, but you know what? Moving constantly taught me not to trust in material things.To this day I couldn’t care less about name-brand clothing, shiny jewelry, a big house or a fancy car, and I praise the Lord for that!
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
2. Do everything well and unto the Lord [Label Your Boxes!]
Moving Hacks
Color code your labels by room of the house and item, that way, boxes will go straight into their designated area.
Keep your clothes on hangers, tie hangers together, and place in plastic bags to go straight into your new closet.
Keep Tools, screws, tape, and scissors handy for unpacking!
Keep Important Documents Close to You
When God says “go” He means it. Make sure you prepare and don’t do anything half-heartily. Procrastination is not of God! Obedience= Immediately, Sweetly, and Completely!
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
3. Change is Inevitable [Change Your Address, and Get Your Bearings!]
You can change your address online or in the post office, but whatever you do, don’t forget! If you move across state lines, you’ll need a new ID and a new license plate. Oh, and don’t forget to mail your old one back home (Or you might get your license suspended).
Change can be scary, uncomfortable, and tedious, but it’s inevitable, and often times, it’s necessary! Don’t expect change to happen over night. Moving takes weeks of preperation, and sometimes days of traveling! It takes time to change your address, to get your bearings, and to fall into a new routine.
In life, when there are changes to be made, we are to listen for God’s voice and obey Him, but the results take time. Don’t rush. Be thorough.

4. Every Place is a Mission Field [Be a Good Neighbor]
Help carry groceries, lend some sugar, babysit, offer a ride… that’s what neighbors do!
Don’t do things expecting to receive things back, but DO treat others how you want to be treated! If you have a good witness with your neighbors, perhaps that will open doors for you to share the gospel!
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
5. Too Blessed to Stress [Moving is Temporary]
Moving means a change of scenery, change of address, new neighbors, new neighborhood, and a whole of firsts. It can be very stressful, but you know what? Moving is temporary and you’re too blessed to stay stressed!
We will face stressful situations for the rest of our lives. Not what you want to hear? Sorry, girls. It’s true. The upside? We don’t go through anything alone! Stressful situations (while numerous) are temporary.
The one thing in your life that will never change, is God and His love for you!
The moment the Holy Spirit came to dwell inside of you, you got a moving buddy for life! Wherever you go, whatever you do, He will always be there for you. When the bills get longer, and the checks get smaller, He is there. In the mountain top or the valley, He is there. Through school, work, relationships, and loss? He will never leave you. He’s the best moving Buddy! And the best part? He doesn’t mind carrying the heavy loads!
